Marina Vitrenjak (Uskok)
Marina Vitrenjak is open year round. It is located northwest from the harbor of Zadar. It is usually used by local residents and sometimes also referred to as Marina Uskok. Being located in Zadar ( the oldest town in Croatia) which lies in the central part of the Adriatic Coast of Croatia, in North Dalmatia, makes this marina a popular spot. The city of Zadar is 160 km north of Split and 290 km south of Rijeka, and together with Dubrovnik it is home to Croatia’s four major harbors. It is one of the most popular tourist destinations in Croatia. Situated half a mile north of the Zadar harbour, and 400 m S of Marina Borik, Marina Vitrenjak is known among sailors for the excellent shelter from all winds. It is 3 km ( 20-minute walk) to the town centre. Uskok Sailing Club operates the marina. It is a vibrant spot where many local professional sailors gather and moor their boats. Visiting yachts are also welcome if there is available space. In July and August -the busiest time of the season - the marina is usually fully booked.
Mooring: Protected by two breakwaters, Marina Vitrenjak has seven concrete piers with 505 wet berths and 50 dry berths, all of which are equipped with water and electricity. It can accommodate boats and yachts up to 20 m in length. Sea depth in the marina ranges between 1.5 m at the foot of the piers to 4 m at the head. Depth at the entrance of the marina is 12 m. The marina gets gradually shallower towards its inner end and towards the beginnings of each pier.
Sightseeing: Zadar is an important city and port on the mainland, in the center of the Croatian Adriatic. You will find popular national parks near Zadar: Plitvice, Paklenica, Krka and Kornati as well as the nature parks Velebit and Telascica. The symbol of the city, The church of St. Donat, is one of the most important places to visit in Zadar. It is also historically one of the most important structures of the Croatian early Middle Ages. With 3000 years of history, it is no surprise that Zadar is home to many important museums: the Archaeological Museum (established in 1830), the Maritime Museum and the National Museum, including the Art Gallery and the Department of Natural Sciences. If you are interested in the cullinary delights, you must taste Zadar's famous Maraskino liqueur. It used to be a favorite drink in all the European courts of the 19th century.
Approach: The city of Zadar is separated from the islands of Ugljan and Pašman by the narrow Zadar Strait. When sailing the Zadar Strait, you must be careful with the sea currents and jugo that can be strong.
