ACI Marina Split

ACI Marina Split is open year round. It is located in the southwestern corner of Split's harbor.

The history of the city begins in 293 AD, when the Roman Emperor Diocletian orders the construction of a magnificent palace in which he would spend his final years. It would be on the ruins of the Greek city of Aspalathos and near Salona, an ancient urban centre. The town of Split as we see today expanded from Diocletian’s Palace, which stands out as the world’s best preserved palace from late antiquity. Split is now the capital of Dalmatia, attracting visitors with its Mediterranean charm and majestic architecture. Modern Split is most closely identified with popular music and sports, earning Diocletian’s city the unofficial titles of “the most musical Croatian city” and “the most sport-crazed city in the world”.

In the most beautiful part of the city’s port, north of the Sustipan peninsula, you will find the ACI Marina Split. It is open all year round, with long breakwater providing excellent protection from rough seas and southerly winds that are often mentioned in many popular local songs. ACI Marina Split, is the beginning point of the Split Lungomare, which is the longest and one of the most beautiful promenades in the Adriatic. Following this road, you can go to the famous beaches of this “beautiful, sun-kissed flower of the Mediterranean,” as another popular song puts it.

The oldest museum in Croatia, founded in 1820 in Split, is the Museum of Croatian Archaeological Monuments. The museum is home to priceless artifacts of ancient cultures which have all left their mark in this city.

The city has been constantly expanding its touristic capacity. The number of beds in private accommodation increased 50 percent from 2011 to 2012.

Diocletian’s Palace is one of the most interesting sites in the city. According to recent theories, the palace was used not only for of leisure, but also as a wool -processing facility that funded the former Emperor’s court.

Mooring: There are 318 berths and 30 dry berths. The marina is protected by a long L-shaped breakwater.

Sightseeing: Split is the largest town of Dalmatia and is an important cultural, economic, tourist and sport center. The town has a number of spots where you can swim, as well as many hotels and sport facilities. Above the town, you can see the mountain Marijan covered with pine woods and Mediterranean plants, which also is home to a zoo and three churches from the Middle Ages. The town has developed around the Diocletian Palace of the Roman Emperor Diocletian. St. Franjo Church (13th century) is located along the shore. The Archaeological Museum is one of the richest in Croatia ; but there are many other museums you can visit: Maritime, Ethnographical, National, etc. The Music Festival held every June, the Split Summer Festival every July are important events in the city.

Approach:The city port of Split is a large ferry port, which requires extra caution when approaching. Ships leaving the port have the right of way in manoeuvring, so it is advisable not to disrupt them. It is also forbidden to anchor in any part of the port, except in emergencies. You can enter the port through a wide passage marked by lights and day-time markings. When approaching the port you can use the following landmarks: The prominent bell tower of the Cathedral of St. Domnius; Cape Sustipan; and a stone monument to seafarers in the shape of a lighthouse, which is in fact a lighted stone obelisk (Fl(2) W 20s 54m 10M). On the port (left-hand) side stony Cape Sustipan there is a red tower with a red light (Fl R 6s 9m 5M), while on the starboard (right-hand) side of the entrance to the port, on the head of the main breakwater, there is a prominent green lighthouse (Fl G 6s 11m 10M), equipped with a fog signal and a 30-second horn.

When approaching the marina you can see the white rocks on the wooded peninsula of Sustipan. The inside breakwater at the eastern entrance to the marina is marked by a red tower with a column, gallery and light (Fl R 2s 6m 3M). The reception building, restaurants and workshops in the marina are also visible. When approaching the marina and the small ports to the west of it, you must steer closer to the head of the inside breakwater. As the area of the newly-built western waterfront has not been surveyed hydrographically, berthing is forbidden, unless you are approaching the fuel station.
